Old Pics

Found these photos while going through a box of textbooks. Not sure what year these were taken, but guessing 1995? Tara, Megan or Kelsey might know what year.

Tara, is this Smoky?

When Tara was a baby, she would wrinkle up her nose and snort.  This photo was taken when we lived in Angola, Kansas.  The mustache was in its infancy, too.  A lady that I worked with gave me a hard time every day asking if I had taken a drink out of a muddy water hole.  hee hee hee.

Weekend stuff

Debbie and I started cleaning out our garage and moved a few boxes to a storage unit in Edmond on Saturday.  Afterward, we went to a new antique store I found in downtown OKC.  Saw alot of nice furniture but nothing we needed.  We went to an antique store where Debbie has found several items of the Whiting Davis jewelry.  She found two more bracelets.  Her collection is getting kinda large.  I need to put photos of everything on here some day.

We went to Eischen's for the first time.  It was crowded and we got lucky to find two empty stools at the bar.  Not long after we arrived, there was a sizeable crowd of people waiting for booths and tables to empty.  One group sat at a large table.  They actually needed two large tables because some folks were sitting on other people's laps.  Crazy.  The bartender told us it was taking 45 minutes for chicken, but we ordered some with okra anyway.  It really took only about 25 minutes to get the chicken.  There was enough for two people.  Good stuff.

We drove around Okarche for a while.  The only thing Debbie recognized was the Lutheran Church.

Is this old church southeast of St John's the old Lutheran church?  I could see some nice stained glass at the south end of the church.

Looked for any sign of the old Wojahn family flour mill, but Eleanor said she thought the mill building no longer existed.  It was east of Eischen's near the railroad tracks.  The only "old" building in that area was a grain mill.  You can barely see Dow Grain Co. on the old sign.

Debbie called Eleanor who gave us directions to the old farm north of town.  All that remains are two barns.

We went west of the old farm to see Eldo's parents' home.  No one is living there now.  The dilapidated building at the right is where Jeannine, Eleanor and Lois were born.  Not sure if Mona was born there.

This photo was among several that I borrowed from Lillian and scanned into the computer.  The back of the photo was written, "Lois' birthplace, 1951."  Obviously the house was in much better condition 60 years ago.

Among the photos borrowed from Lillian was a photo of the Wojahn family.  Eldo is the handsome young man, 2nd from the right.  Not sure if this photo was taken at the home we saw on Saturday.  The porch columns are different, which implies the photo was taken at a different house.  It also appears there are other buildings in the background.  But renovations could have been made to the columns at some point after the photo was taken in the 1930s.  And, the buildings could be barns or sheds.

Debbie and I went back to Stillwater through Kingfisher and Hennessey.  We passed Rooster's Honky Tonk Bar and Chicken Shack.  Gotta like a place with a giant plastic rooster on a pole.

Happy Anniversary, Debbie!!

Thirty four years ago we got married in Miami at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.  Two teenagers with no money and not much thought for the future except we loved each other and wanted to be together forever.  Thirty four years later, three wonderful daughters and three grandchildren later, we are still in love and still want to be together forever.

Thank you!!!

Snapshots of the past

Debbie found the box of our family photos.  We were going through it last night trying to find our wedding photos.  Found a few but not all yet.  Came across this photo of Debbie, Jerry and their cousins.  July 1971.  Thought about putting it on FB, but did not know if everyone wanted their youthfulness displayed to the world.  LOL.

Tara, Megan and Kelsey can see what I looked like without my mustache.  This was taken about the time Debbie and I graduated from high school.  Lots more of me now.  :{o  Still looking for a photo of Debbie from 1977.  I know there are some of her, but we have a lot of photos to go through!

Initial results from the cardio screenings

No blockages or aneurysms detected.  I heard a heartbeat through the sonogram machine.  Technician confirmed it was my heart and not a fetal heartbeat, which is a relief.  Awaiting a review of the screening results by a cardiologist.

Doc appointment

Cardio screening at 10 a.m.  Curious to see how it turns out.

Hope everyone had a good weekend and has a good Monday!

Checking out houses

Believe it or not, Debbie and I will be moving to the Oklahoma City area.  Not sure exactly where yet, but at least we have advanced beyond a strong desire on my part (for the last 16 years, by the way) to actually checking out homes on the www and going to look at a couple of houses in the Edmond and north OKC area.  "Looking" was limited to a drive by of one home and actually getting out and peeking through the windows of another home.  I have been looking at foreclosures on the www and found a couple that were interesting enough to see what they looked like in person.  There are ALOT of homes for sale in the OKC area and ALOT of foreclosure homes.  Many of the foreclosures that I looked at online are located in fairly new neighborhoods.  Several homes within a few blocks of each other in what appear to be new developments constructed within the last four or five years.  Many of those newer homes are Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac foreclosures.  Sad stuff that.  Also, checking out homes that are for sale around OKC.  Lots of nice ones.  Trying to decide whether or not to live in town or find something with a few acres.

Anyway, I am really trying to temper my excitement because I know the anticipation will drive me crazy.  But, I really cannot wait to shorten our drive to work.  Not just reducing the miles travelled but also the time spent each day sitting in the car.  I calculated at one time that since 1996 I have travelled almost 1 million miles between Stillwater and OKC just going to work and going home afterwards.  Wore out three cars with almost 300,000 miles on two of them and over 350,000 miles on one.  Dang.  Debbie has "enjoyed" the daily trip for the last four years.

Have a good weekend.
