I inspected a home south of Stillwater that was damaged by the tornado that passed through the area on May 24. The home was extensively damaged and will likely be torn down and rebuilt. The only question is how much can be saved. The owner was sitting on the toilet when the tornado hit. While he was running through the house, the back wall of the house collapsed. That is the wall of the master bedroom where the storm shelter is located. You can see the damage in the third photo.
While walking around the house and looking at the damage, I saw this near the front doors.
Yeah, that's about a 3 foot long snake that climbed to the top of the wall and wrapped itself around one of the stones. Looks like a ratsnake. The owner said the snakes go up there to try and catch birds. Weird.

That snake gives me the willies.
I looked up some info about ratsnakes. Apparently that is a common trait about those snakes. They climb onto the eaves of houses and into trees to get birds and small mammals. Never thought about looking up for snakes. Should have thought about it after that snake that was always in the shrubs on S. Park Street when I trimmed them. I always thought that was a garter snake, but now I wonder if it was a ratsnake. Good thing they are not poisonous. I think the snake struck my shirt once while I had the trimmers going. I felt something hit my shirt and when I backed away from the shrubs, I saw the snake. I gave him time to move on...
