Deb has the flu
Turns out it is a good thing we did not make the trip to Fairland on Saturday. Debbie went to the walk-in clinic today and was diagnosed with type A influenza. Hope the rest of us don't get it. Tara got the flu shot for her chilluns. Deb is feeling terrible and looks like she feels terrible. She had a 102 temperature this morning. Still has a fever but not sure it is that high. Doc gave her some Tamiflu and a cough syrup of some sort. Told her to take Theraflu (not Tamiflu), also. Hope she starts feeling better soon.

Wrasslefest
For some reason, the kids decided it was fun to climb on Opie while he is trying to sit on the recliner.
Christmas Day
We planned to make a trip to Fairland today but did not do so. Debbie had a fever on Wednesday evening. She was not feeling much better on Thursday and Friday. This morning she got up and readied to go, but her sinuses were really bothering her. Headache, coughing, yucky stuff out of her nose. She decided not to expose Lillian to whatever it is she has. Oliver has been coughing, too.
We ate breakfast and milled around the house. Introduced the grandchilluns to Loony Toons on youtube. They watched several Bugs Bunny and Foghorn Leghorn cartoons.
Debbie, Tara, Kelsey and Jeremy made some desserts. Oreo balls. Tagalongs, or whatever you call Ritz crackers with peanut butter dipped in chocolate. Cheeseball. Jeremy dipped cinnamon and sugar donettes in chocolate.
Debbie and Kelsey put a turkey breast and ham in the oven around noon. Everyone was saying they were hungry and Debbie realized the turkey and ham would not be ready for a few hours. Jeremy suggested that we go to a local Chinese buffet for lunch. So, we did the Dean version of "A Christmas Story" and had Chinese food for lunch. There were several other families there, too. Could not convince any of the Asian servers to sing "Deck the Halls" to us. No "Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra Ra Ra Ra Ra". Darnit. (you know you just sang that song to yourself).
Deb is taking a nap right now. Maggie was supposed to lay down and take a nap, also. But Maggie came back into the living room after a few minutes. Jeremy is crashed on the recliner. Tara and Kelsey are in the kitchen making green bean and brocolli casseroles. We are all playing a new game, Rephrase. Now playing "Funglish".
Not the day we had planned, but still good to be with family. The ham and turkey sure do smell good.
Hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas.

Tara was trying to explain the Funglish game but no one was listening.
Using words to describe a "parachute". Nobody figured it out.

Miscellaneous stuff
Found some cool photos on the www.
Not so sure how cool this is really. It is funny for sure because you know that dog is embarrassed and trying to find a way to hide before his neighborhood buds see him.
Not sure where this is, but wow.
People in Norway have some awesome scenery!!
There is some pretty scenery in the U.S., too. Monument Valley in Utah.
Go ahead and admit that you sharted just a little when you saw this photo...

Deer update
As you might recall, we had deer grazing in our front yard a couple of times. Debbie purchased a large bag of corn for deer food. I put some in the front yard, but as far as I can tell the deer have not returned to our front yard to eat the corn. Megan or Kelsey told Debbie that they saw a doe and two smaller deer in the neighbor's front yard grazing. After that, I put some of the corn along the fence across the street from the house. The next evening I checked and all of the corn was gone. Last nite, I put more corn in the same area. This morning, all of the corn was gone. Apparently, the deer are finding the corn. Either that or some other corn-loving critter is having a great feast during the nite. I am tempted to put out some more corn tonite, don some cold-weather gear and hide in the trees to see what is eating the corn. Not sure how late into the nite I would have to wait. I'd likely fall asleep and scare away the corn-eating critters by snoring too loudly.
Hmmm.... I foresee another expedition similar to the "Arachnid Relocation Expedition"...
More updates to come.

Porky Pig singing Blue Christmas
Not necessarily back by popular demand, but I hear it was mentioned recently that I've posted this song on the blog in the past. This song is by Seymour Swine and the Squealers. You gotta admit, it's hilarious. Can you ever again hear the regular version of this song without singing Porky's version? LOL

Flash mob sings Christmas song at Quail Springs Mall
Never heard of a "flash mob" before. Apparently, a large group of people arrive at a location and break into a "spontaneous" performance. This happened at the Quail Springs Mall in north OKC last weekend. Several videos on you-tube about it. Our newest employee, Weston, happened to be at the mall when this performance occurred. It's pretty cool.
The first video is that of a guy walking through the food court crowd while the performance is happening. In the second video, taken from above the food court, you can see a guy in a red shirt walking through the crowd (check the crowd at about the 0:31 second mark of the 2nd video) just below the watch banner hanging from the ceiling. You might have to watch the video a couple of times to catch him. Has to be the same guy who shot the first video.

When I heard about a "flash mob", my mind quickly veered into the gutter. I imagined a bunch of people dressed in trench coats and simultaneously opening the coats to expose their nekkidness.
Hope everyone has a great Holiday weekend.

Deer update
Nothing to update. No deer spotted in the front yard since we seeded the front yard with corn. But it has been pretty hectic the last few nites about the time of evening the deer were grazing previously. Last nite, I checked to see if the corn was still there. It is. There was a piece of shingle laying in the front yard under the tree where the deer had been milling around. I picked up the shingle and something mushy stuck to my finger. I briefly saw something about the size of a grape on my finger as I flung the whatever-it-was across the yard. I did not investigate to determine if it was a deer turd. I just threw the shingle in the trashcan and washed my hands. LOL

Deer in the front yard
One evening last week after we got home from work, I am sitting in the living room surfing the www while Debbie is in the bedroom doing something or other. Suddenly, she yells at me to hurry back there. She's kinda frantic sounding and the first thing I thought of was another garter snake had found its way into the house. Nope. Debbie was standing in the hallway looking into Megan's bedroom. As I approached her, she said, "Look through the window. Two deer are in the front yard." Sure enough, there were two deer in the front yard grazing. The streetlight behind the deer allowed us to see their silhouettes. Our bedroom light was behind us, so the deer could see silhouettes through the window. One of the deer was looking toward us with its ears sticking out. Kinda funny looking. Anyway, they stayed there for several minutes before a car came down the street and the deer ran across the road into a small stand of trees.
Sunday night after we got home from Tara's, Debbie was in the bedroom. She said the deer were back in the front yard again. Sure enough, they were back eating grass or something. We have a large bradford pear tree, so I'm wondering if they were eating the berries off of it. Dunno. But, they stayed around for quite a while eating.
Last nite, Debbie went to the grocery store. She came back home with a 5 lbs back of corn to put in the front yard for the deer. A couple of years ago, she adopted a large black bunny rabbit around Easter that showed up at the house. Now, it is deer. The next few days will be interesting if a bunch of deer start hanging out at the house. We know there are three for sure. Wonder how many friends they have?
Have a good day.

Angel on the Christmas tree
Always wondered how the custom began. Now I know.
A little Christmas story
When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.
Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.
When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.
Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.
Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.
Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.
The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?'
And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.
Not a lot of people know this.

Well, it is the same song. Just different, um, instrumentation. The link takes you to a different video. If you scroll down a bit, you will see several videos. Click on the video labeled "Here Come the Mummies- Bells"

Cool pics
Found several cool photos surfing the www during lunch.
For Kelsey:
If this guy didn't poop, I did for him.
Just cool.
This is what Debbie and I saw on the way to work this morning.
For Kelsey:
Is this John during their trip to San Francisco this summer?
I believe this has been in a few commercials and movies. Is this the road Forrest Gump was running on when he decided he had ran enough?
Man, I feel like yodeling.
Just cute.
This is what Debbie and I saw on the way to work this morning.

Thanksgiving dinner
Debbie cooked up a great feast. Big ole 20 pound turkey. Green bean casserole, brocolli and rice casserole, sweet potatoes with apples, dressing, scalloped potatoes, cranberry and marshmallow something-or-other, big butt rolls (not sure what they are really called, but they are big), apple pie, pumpkin pie, cheesecake, trifle dessert. If you were hungry after all that, it is your own daggone fault. I wanted to take a photo of everything before we ate, but this famished crowd got there before I did.
It was a fine looking bird before it was cannibalized. An Amazon River full of pirahnas got nothing on the Dean bunch when it comes to pickin' a carcass.
Yummy.
Evie, Maggie, Oliver and I had to take a walk before dinner. Went across the street to the park and the school playground. Kids had a good time.
We heard something in there, Opie.
Kids saw the airplane flying overhead. They said it was making clouds.
Climbing the wall.
Oliver had to hustle to keep up with his sisters.
We live in TEXAS!
Evie and Maggie couldn't figure out why there was a hole in the bottom of that thing.
Evie somehow fell off of this a few minutes earlier. She was ok until she noticed her finger was scratched a few minutes after I took this photo. We had to go back to the house after that.
Pretty fun day. Great dinner. Played some Wii later. Family Feud and Trivial Pursuit. Good family times.
