Schlitterbahn

The sign was just outside our condo.

We had a great family trip to the Schlitterbahn water park in New Braunfels, Texas.  We visited Schlitterbahn in 2003 during our family trip to Sea World in San Antonio.  This time, we had a few more people.  Tara, John, Evie, Maggie, Oliver, Megan, Shawn, Kelsey, Jeremy, Debbie and I met there on Friday afternoon.  We played all day Saturday and went our separate ways on Sunday.

The condo where Debbie, Tara, John, the grandkids, and I stayed.

The room where Megan, Kelsey, Shawn and Jeremy stayed.  They had a great view of the Comal River from their porch.  We did not have this great view from the condo.

Lots of green spaces between the porch and the river.

View toward the river.  The water is very clear and cold.  Schlitterbahn uses water from the river on some of the "rides" in the east park.

Closer look at the river.

More green space.

The other "cabins".  The blue poles, barely visible in the distance through the trees, are the same ones in the photo below.

This is the view we had from the condo.  The "castle" in the distance is the water roller coaster called Master Blaster.  Gotta wait in line for a long time to ride that one.  There is a lazy river ride that goes around the Master Blaster.  I lost at small, waterproof tube with $45 inside the tube on that river.  dangit.  Hopefully, some little kid scored when he or she found the tube.  Anyway, the three tall, blue poles are another attraction that none of us had the nerve, or $$, to ride.  Megan and Kelsey's room was near the Master Blaster.

We rented two rooms on the Schlitterbahn property.  There are two big parks, Schlitterbahn East and Schlitterbahn West.  We stayed at the east resort, which is called Resort on the Rapids.  Pretty good idea since we could just go out the door and take a short walk to the front gate.  No hassle with finding a place to park or anything.  One of the "rooms" was a two bed space that is part of a large cabin.  One of the "rooms" was a two story, two bedroom condo with a kitchen.  We ate a breakfast of cereal on Saturday morning, lunch of sandwiches for lunch and Debbie made a huge pot of spaghetti for dinner.  That helped a bunch, especially Saturday nite after everyone was pooped from playing all day.  We tried to go to IHOP on Sunday morning but it was packed.  Tried a bakery, Oma's Haus, but Oma didn't serve breakfast.  Ended up at Denny's and a very late breakfast.  It was almost noon before we got a meal.  Should have eaten cereal at the condo.  But, it was good times with everyone together.  Don't know how many times we will be able to pull off getting all of us together at once like that in the future, so gotta enjoy each time it happens.

Debbie bought two disposable, waterproof cameras so we could take photos.  Fifty-four photos all together that could have been taken.  We might have taken a dozen photos between the two cameras.  Kept leaving the cameras with the towels at the various tables that we staked temporary claim to.  We will finish using the cameras and get the stuff developed as soon as we can.  Eleanor, we won't leave them laying around for years until you get tired of waiting to see the photos.  I promise.

The grandkids certainly had a blast.  The big "kids" had fun, too.  Although by the end of the day everyone seemed weary of waiting in the long lines to do the "rides".  The place was crowded.

On Sunday, we followed Tara and John from New Braunfels to Dallas.  We stopped at a Czech bakery in West, Texas.  Good cinammon roll and kalaches.  I didn't try a kalache, but heard they were really good.  We stopped at an antique mall a few miles north of there.  We stopped at Sal's Pizza in Dallas, which is one of Jeremy's favorite restaurants.  Pretty good pizza.

There is a Schlitterbahn park in Kansas City, one in Galveston and another at Padre Island, Texas.  If you get a chance to go, it's fun!
