Fun Day

Debbie and I had a great day yesterday.  We spent most of the day in Purcell, OK.  There were five antique stores there.  One was in old theater.  Two levels of stuff.  The building is not in the best condition, but the idea of putting an antique store in a theater is cool.  We've been to other antique stores that were in similar theaters.

Another antique store is in an old hotel that has been remodeled.  The owners are retired.  The hotel renovation and antique store is their retirement project.  They are using only the first two floors though.  No plans to renovate the third floor.

After Purcell, we went to Norman trying to find an antique store advertised as having 17,000 square feet of antiques.  We found the building but the antique store was no longer there.  So we went to another store in OKC.  It was a good place to visit.  Debbie found a nice necklace and earring set.  The jewelry was made by Whiting and Davis.  Kinda funny that after knowing her for almost 34 years, she's finally wearing jewelry.

We ate dinner with Megan and Shawn at the Crab Town restaurant in Bricktown.  We had the shrimp and crab boil.  Very good eating.  Crab, shrimp, andouli sausage, new potatoes and corn-on-the-cob boiled together in cajun seasoning.  They dump it all on the table and we dig in.  Megan and Shawn were in Edmond for Shawn's cousin's wedding, so meeting them worked out pretty good.

The party animals were back in the hotel by 9:30 and asleep by 11.  Good day with my favorite gal.

I was hoping for a trip to Bricktown at Christmas - ahhhh....another time :). The antiquing hotel looks really neat - have they kept seperate rooms or did they tear down walls, or did they just use the public spaces? Sounds really cool! What about the old wallpapers and decor?

They kept the separate rooms in the hotel just as they were when the hotel was constructed. I do not believe all of the wallpaper is original but some of it might be. They rebuilt all or most of the stairs from the first floor to the 2nd floor. The owners live in the hotel on the first floor. The guy ran a pharmacy on the first floor in the old lobby. At that time, the upper floors were abandoned and not used since the 70's. The front porches were part of the interior space at that time or part of the roof above the first floor. When the guy retired, he bought the hotel building. He and his wife rebuilt the porches, cleaned up the painted brick exterior, removed all of the false ceilings to expose the metal panel ceilings. They did a great job restoring it to what the hotel probably looked like when it was constructed.
